The official, the real, the one-and-only Millennium (at least that we'll live to see) has arrived. To celebrate that, here is a series of Millennium Moons started in January 2001. This is a continuing body of work.
Time is divided into periods of different lengths. We begin time periods in various ways depending on its length. Each morning we begin a new day; each Monday starts a new week; we change the calendar on the first of each month.

Wallworks
CompetitionLonger time periods are more important. Each New Year starts with a holiday. A new century is even more important. And the Millennium reigns as the most noted beginning of all.
This series juxtaposes the eternal and reliable moon, a measure of time for many millennia, with the (relatively) temporary man-made monuments of our time. These opposite forces are reinforced by the extreme ranges of black and white that appear in these images.
